Good Apple Awards: Congratulations to Susan Meyer,
Richard Chandler, Ineze Williams, Rose Tyler, Brenda Calkins,
and Mary Foster for receiving the Good Apple Award. (4/16/07)
Students at Northeast Magnet High School had an excellent day at
the
Kansas Junior Academy of Science
(KJAS) competition. NEM
students received eight Superior awards and one Excellent
rating. Congratulations!
Tuan Le, Kyrouz Boumalhab, PJ Phatchantry, Rami Zayed, Terry
Sharp, Esha Cheema and Thao Nguyen for recieving Superior
ratings. They have qualified for the state competition at
WSU in May. S. Woolf also received an Excellent rating for

Five Northeast students were
awarded engineering scholarships from WSU as part
of a
competition for engineering projects. These students presented
their projects in front of college engineering students and
professors. Way to go NEM!!!
Congrats to
Prince Ukpong. He was
recognized by the Board of Education during the 99% Awards
ceremony for the third quarter on April 2. The 99% Awards
recognize students who are making a contribution to their school
by receiving good grades and having at least 90% attendance, but
who may not be getting the recognition they deserve for doing
the right thing. (4/2/07)
Unsung Hero Awards! Congratulations to Greg Blackman,
Jamie Riddell, and Erin McLemore. Each of these students was honored by
the Wichita Optimist Club with the Unsung Hero award. These students
have all been recognized by a banquet in their honor for their success
and contributions to our school. Congratulations!

The Northeast Magnet chess team is the 6A state chess champions!
On March 10th the chess team faced teams from across the state at the state chess
championships held at Maize HS and finished in first place in 6A. The chess team
members are: Truman Glover, Kevin Horn, James Criss, Peter Nguyen, Graylin Lang,
Gary Sanchez, Casey Fox-Featherby. Coached by Troy Criss. (3/10/07)
Congratulations Art Students!
Several art magnet students attended the third annual Art
Challenge Day at Friends University. Students participated in a juried
art exhibit and several art challenges. NEM received ‘Best in Show’
for our art display and received the ‘Most Points’ award. See the

Congratulations to senior Jordan Bird! Jordan has been awarded
a $40,000 scholarship to the University of Arizona for athletics.
Jordan will be part of the Arizona track team for students in
wheelchairs. Jordan is also well on his way to competing in the 2008
Paralympics to be held in China. Jordan currently holds many world
records in many events. Furthermore, Jordan is a great student.

Congratulations to Rami Zayed for receiving the WSU Gore
Memorial Scholarship. This is a very prestigious scholarship valued at
$48,000. We are very proud of our NEM senior, Rami Zayed, for this
great achievement.
Congratulations to Tara Steven. NEM's newest 99% award winner.
