                                                                                                                            download.

                                                                                                                       NEM has waiting lists.

                                                                                           Those chosen by the district lottery will be

                                                                                          invited to attend an enrollment session.

                                                                                    Failure to attend the enrollment session will

                                                                                      forfeit your student's place at NEM to

                                                                                       someone not chosen or late applicants.

                                                                                          Applicants will be notified by mail, through

                                                                                            the magnet office, of their status in March.

                                                                                 Visiting: Parents and students may tour NEM     

                                                                          during school hours, 7:15 a.m. to 2:25 p.m., Tuesday

                                                 through Thursday, by appointment. Call 973-2301 to arrange a visit.

 

 

 

 

So what is Northeast Magnet:

Northeast Magnet (NEM) is a Visual Arts, Science and Law magnet high school in Wichita, KS.

It provides a four-year program of studies for students who want to focus their education in

art, science or law fields.

The magnet areas, in conjunction with the academic core (required English, math, social studies and science), present an integrated curriculum utilizing technology and annual projects to produce a focused, well-rounded education. The goal is to empower students to engage the world creatively, critically and responsibly.

                                  Northeast Magnet graduates have gone on to succeed in colleges and

                          universities as well as entered the military and other programs in highly technical

                  areas. District, state, and national test scores indicate that NEM's program provides skills

                    necessary for success. NEM students regularly score above district and state averages.

                                   Which magnet area is for me?

                                                                     ART students are interested in a career or further

                                                                            education in visual media: Sculpture and Pottery;

                                                                            Drawing and Painting; Digital & Video Imaging;  

                                                                            and Computer Graphics.

                                                             SCIENCE students are interested in continuing their      

                                                                            education in four-year college programs in

                                                                            science-related fields: medicine, engineering,

                                                                            and aviation. Students pursue science knowing

                                                                            the opportunities available in the future.

                                                                        LAW students are interested in further study in law-

                                                                            related fields: criminal & civil law, law

                                                                            enforcement & public/social service

                                                     All NEM students are enrolled in a magnet area.

                                             The choice is made at enrollment.

 

Yearly Projects, Dress Code, Lunch?

Yearly Projects: NEM strongly believes student projects are the

cornerstone of a rigorous academic program. Projects

challenge students through research, writing, skill

development, and the production of a product, as well as

oral and visual presentations. Technology, teamwork,

and time management are integrated into the program.

All students are expected to complete a magnet area

project each year.

 

Dress Code: A dress code is enforced, but uniforms

     are not part of it. (please see the student handbook)

 

Leaving Campus: Freshman and sophomore students cannot

     leave campus during the day, which includes lunch.

Juniors and seniors may leave for lunch, mentorship,

or to take off campus classes.
